WHICH WHITE? (HOW TO CHOOSE THE VERY BEST WHITE)

In a previous Brainwave article, I wrote about why the color white was so popular as a window treatment. See: http://www.nobrainerblinds.com/info/9901_white.asp In this article you'll learn how to choose the best white. Not all whites are the same.

The key is to look for a hint of a second color, or tint, blended with the white. The other color is usually yellow, pink, brown, or gray. If you focus on the tint rather than the white, you'll see it.

First determine which tint you want. Do that by looking at the trim, wallpaper (its background usually) or wall on which you want to coordinate. See the tint?

You'll find this true not only for blinds and shades, but also for fabrics. When you're looking for the tint on a fabric, it's best to look at the fabric in various lighting conditions. Go to different places in your home and check it in each of those places. There will be some places where the color will be easier to see.

When you're looking at the color, it's best NOT to look at it with the sun behind the color. When the sun is behind the color, it's hard for your eye to see the color due to glare. It's better to have the sun or other light source directed on the spot you're evaluating for tint.

Once you start realizing there are many tints in white, it will be easier to select carpet, tile, appliances, other accessories, and window coverings.. Now go "white" out and choose!

MULTIPLE BLINDS ON 1 HEADRAIL. THE GUIDELINES.

When you have a very large window, sometimes you have to divide the window into segments, putting multiple blinds within the window opening. It's normally better to use only one blind, but there are size and weight constraints. When you use multiple blinds, try to have them mounted to a single headrail, if possible. Here are some guidelines:

1) Manufacturers usually provide relevant information on the appropriate sizes or square footage dimensions that dictate when to use multiple blinds on a single headrail.

2) If the slats are properly supported and are of good quality, you generally don't need to worry about warping on bigger blinds.

3) Are you planning to raise the blind often? If so, then use multiple blinds. This is especially true with a slider.
